Commercialization

We turn molecular discoveries into market-ready products.

From Woodson Hall to the World

NC State already drives economic growth through research commercialization. We provide the infrastructure to help our faculty patent and license their inventions and launch and scale their own startups. The Integrative Sciences Initiative (ISI) is building on the university’s culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. In Woodson Hall, the hub of ISI, commercialization is not merely an option. It’s the end goal from the start.

ISI and Woodson Hall are designed to enable regular interaction and collaboration among interdisciplinary researchers. We’ll tap into NC State’s existing resources — and develop our own — to help faculty turn their groundbreaking molecular experimentation and discovery into market-ready products, including drug therapeutics.

2,500+ Patents

issued.

265+ Startups and Spinoffs

based on NC State research.

650+ Products

brought to market.

Providing Cutting-Edge Opportunities

ISI’s focus on the commercial potential of our research will benefit society, while giving individual faculty members and students an edge. Faculty will have the opportunity to do more with their work than is typically possible at a university. It’s not always feasible to start research programs around each fundamental discovery, but in Woodson Hall, faculty can spin out their findings into startups or collaborations with industry partners.

Students involved with ISI will get to take part in research that leads to real-world change. Their work won’t stay within the walls of Woodson Hall — it may one day make its way into pharmacies and drugstore shelves.
